Without knowledge of your ancestors, you become like a tree with no roots
"I think, therefore I am. But who am I? Am I only what I think? Am I only the one who thinks? These days, there's a lot of confusion between our personality and our identity. And yet, the word personality comes from personal, meaning that which is peculiar to our person, while identity gives identical, meaning that which is similar in every way to something else. So why do we insist on thinking that it's the character traits of our personality that constitute our identity? Could this be an implicit and unconscious acceptance that we are not the only human beings to think, speak and act in such or such a way? If we had the opportunity to meet the members of our family tree up to 7 generations back, we'd quickly realize that what we believe makes us unique was in fact already present in our ancestors.
